TAKING UP SPACE
Performance
2017
The live performance, followed by a lecture performance and public discussion, has been developed over a long period in collaboration with Clareese Hill and Kaija Matiss. The basis for this was the intensive study of sexism and the space that is taken as women. In our live performance, we declared our space in public space with tape and defended it until it came to escalations. Inspired and referring to Martha Rosler's Semiotics of the Kitchen we peeled potatoes in our marked room. The continuation of the performance included our projected video documentation on the kitchen atmosphere stage. The performance included conversations and experiences between us three artists in which the space was taken from us and we had experienced sexism. Afterwards we opened "our space" and invited the viewers to the public discussion we had led.
